The
Vivekananda Polyclinic Medical Library is housed on the top floor
of the Polyclinic building. It was initially conceived as a Book
Bank for the doctors and other staff members working in the Polyclinic
and was established in 1977. It then had a collection of 609 books,
and 8 periodicals.
It has since grown into full-fledged library. Besides
books and periodicals on various disciplines of medicine, surgery,
and respective super specialities, it now has a number of books
on Accountancy, Law, and Computers for use of other staff members.
Books and periodicals on different subjects are issued to individuals
for reference as well as to various departments eg, Radiology, Pathology,
School of Nursing, etc.
The library had 3,054 books during 2004-2005. Ten medical journals of foreign publication and two Indian journals were being subscribed. The Library also receives complimentary and gifted books and journals.
The Library also has a computer terminal with internet facilities. The Library has joined the membership of LUSLIC (Lucknow Special Libraries Consortium) where it is linked with resourceful libraries of SGPGI, KGMU, CGRI, etc.
